A Commitment to Advanced Research, Quality & Innovation
Metagenics is an industry leader in the development of science-based products and programs that help deliver on our mission, to improve health by helping people achieve their genetic potential through nutrition. Our research and development team draws on their rich knowledge of the historical use of medicinal plants, plant extracts, and nutrients to utilize our extensive proprietary database and natural product ingredient library in order to conduct nutrigenomic research and discover better solutions for chronic illness. The nutrigenomic research is conducted at our biotechnology subsidiary, MetaProteomics®, where new effective, natural ingredients and ingredient combinations are discovered, evaluated for safety and bioavailability, and then clinically tested in humans at our Functional Medicine Research CenterSM. Metagenics’ investment in research has resulted in the discovery of novel, natural products that are setting a new industry standard for safety, effectiveness, and quality.
Metagenics research process begins long before a product is designed. Metagenics has been building a proprietary database that catalogs the medicinal and health-promoting properties of plants, plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients prioritized by the quality of research and potential therapeutic benefit for over 25 years. We have also developed an extensive natural product ingredient library sourced from traditional healing systems, botanists, ingredients suppliers, and other sources form all over the world. Our scientists use these resources to create new, more effective nutraceuticals and medical foods. A research discovery process conducted at MetaProteomics will typically identify the 200 to 250 ingredients from our database and ingredient library that are most likely to be effective for a nutraceutical that targets the condition we are focusing on. These ingredients are screened at our nutrigenomics research laboratory using live cell culture proteomic analysis to study the effect of specific nutrients on gene expression (nutrigenomics), protein production, and metabolism. Scientists with advanced degrees in molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and clinical research interpret these laboratory results and identify new bioactive, natural ingredients formulated in proprietary ratios to enhance their bioactivity for development into novel nutraceutical products.
The MetaProteomics research process includes cell proteomic research, three phases of safety evaluations, human ex vivo bioavailability research, and human clinical research. We call this research process the ExpresSyn® Process. The ExpresSyn® Process is the most advanced R&D system in the nutraceutical industry and has been very productive producing a rich pipeline of valuable new nutraceuticals and medical foods that are use to support therapeutic lifestyle programs for treating chronic disease.
